In the Film that we watched on Tuesday I saw that the Internet is not as safe as some people may think. For example, if a student is being bullied at school he then has to go home and find that when he goes online to get to check on his social media, that he is being cyber bullied as well. This is a serious problem that has plagued teens and other young kids that rely on the Internet as a form of entertainment and a way to connect to others.
Another thing I saw in the video that really caught my attention was the way that people pretend to be someone else so that they can become popular and likable. Such as the girl that pretended to be a model and anyone that befriended her on social media did not know that she was a fake account and that the person they thought they were befriending was actually nonexistent. Even though the girl knew that what she was doing was wrong she continued to do it, because she felt the exhilaration that you get from being noticed by thousands of people. Once everyone found out who she was they started to call her names and they immediately denied ever looking up to her as a role model of any sort.
This sort of expression that is commonly found on the Internet leads me to believe that many kids find that they can only be themselves online and not in the real world. It is much easier to make friends on the Internet where nobody knows if the person that they are talking to is real or not and no one can see the face behind the screen. I believe that something about the way that people interact on the Internet needs to be changed for the better to include students that rely heavily on it. There also needs to be more restrictions on what you can and can't say on websites like Facebook or Myspace, or even Instagram. Because from the video I have seen that growing up in the age of technology has created many new scenarios that need to be recognized and handled by professionals in these departments.
